Chlorine is the most common water disinfectant. Once in water, it presents as free chlorine and total chlorine.
Free chlorine is the chlorine that is available in the water to tackle bacteria. As the process of disinfection takes place, the levels of free chlorine will reduce. Total chlorine is the measurement of free and used chlorine in the water.
If the total chlorine is high but the free chlorine is low or non-existent, then there is insufficient chlorine in the water to deal with the levels of contamination.
Free chlorine is the most frequently tested of the two chemicals. By checking for the two as part of a rigorous testing procedure, adjustments in chlorine levels can be made quickly and easily and a high level of disinfection can be easily maintained.
Can also be used to determine chlorine levels in fish tanks for optimum fish and plant health. Use alongside recommended dechlorinators.

| Störningar kan orsakas av: | Brom, jod, ozon, oxiderade former av krom och mangan. Vid vatten med en hårdhet större än 500 mg/L CaCO3 , skaka provet i cirka 2 minuter efter att pulverreagenset tillsatts. Om vattnet som används för denna procedur har ett alkalinitetsvärde större än 250 mg/L CaCO3 eller ett surhetsvärde större än 150 mg/L CaCO3 , kan provets färg utvecklas endast delvis, eller blekna snabbt. För att lösa detta, neutralisera provet med utspädd HCl eller NaOH. |
